We've had ours since Kaitlyn was 2 and Kaitlyn is almost 6 and it is something her and now Allison play with it all of the time. Nathan has played with it a lot too.
ML also got hers when she turned 1. She's turning 4 next week and she doesn't play with it everyday but she and her little brother do play with it a lot. We have it in the kitchen, next to the breakfast table and when they're done eating, they usually get down and serve us stuff while we eat/talk. She played with it a lot more after we got her a really large set of food items. There's a super cheap plastic set on amazon, and for us at least, that has been the most value-added item aside from the kitchen itself. The extra baking/cooking utensil stuff didn't pique her interest as much.
Re: Kitchen Set - how long did it take your DC to get sick of it?
