Need tips!
My almost 4yo still naps almost 2 hours at school - Does not want to go take a nap at home.
Problem is -- he always falls asleep in the car or on the couch at like 5:00 and then is a BEAR and then its a disaster for the entire house -- and then doesn't want to go to bed till LATE.
He is a VERY active boy as all boys are -- but he gets up at 6 and I can't get him to sleep later....
Any tips ?
Re: giving up the nap struggle
I don't know. We gave it up a few months before he turned 4, but it's just easier for us if he doesn't take a nap. On the days he napped, he'd wake up grouchy. Then, he'd go to bed at the regular time (8:00), and I wouldn't hear anything from him. I'd go to check on him at about 10:00 or 11:00, and he would be wide awake.
For a while before he stopped napping for good, we'd do a nap about every other day. Now, he'll only take a nap if we're in the car.
If your DS won't nap for you at the normal time and the 5:00 nap isn't working, I'd just avoid the car at that time and try to get him to bed earlier.
Not really any tips (sorry!), but just wanted to say that we are kind of in the same boat. When DH is home (on the weekends), he really pushes for me to put DS down for a nap. If I do, he will sleep a good 2 hours but then is crazy hard to get to sleep at night.
During the week (DH doesn't get home until after bedtime most days), I keep him up and put both kids to bed at 7p. I'm lucky that my DS is just not the type of kid to fall asleep anywhere, but I purposely try to not go far in the car in the afternoon. If he sleeps for any longer than 30 minutes, bedtime is a disaster.
I hope you get some good tips!!
