My DS will be 3.5 when baby is born. I hardly ever use a stroller now, but i use one when we go to theme parks, vacation, and when i want to let him sleep while i shop (which usually only lasts a few minutes). We have 3 single strollers. I am thinking of the City Mini Double for the times i need a double. I just can't imagine a time that i would need the sit-n-stand style. Other moms have said they like the Bob double and another told me she finds herself needing a sit-n-stand (with same age spacing). BTW - i almost never go to a mall, i don't jog, but i do walk for exercise. Now if we go out to walk the dog he "drives" his jeep power wheels
Any thoughts on this?
TIA!
Re: stroller question with 3.5 year old & infant
I ultimately decided to skip the double stroller. My DD was 4 just before the baby was born. The only time she uses a stroller is when I want to take the dogs on a brisk walk (she can walk the whole route with the dogs, but sometimes I just want to get it done). I decided I'd just wear the baby and push her in the stroller until she's big enough to keep up the pace or ride her bike along with us.
That being said, if someone had given me a sit and stand or something, I wouldn't have refused it
My DD was 3 when the baby was born and 3 months later we started the search for a double stroller (for the same uses you mentioned -- we have season passes to Sesame Place and DD1 can't walk around all day so we knew we needed one).
For us, the City Mini was too small. There wasn't enough head room for DD1 to use the canopy, and she looked squished. The Double City Elite was much better -- but more $ than I was looking to spend.
We ended up buying a much cheaper Baby Trend Double Jogger (~$210). We used that from 5/2009 until I sold it last month on CraigsList for $125.
We then got the Baby Trend Sit n Stand. I wish I would have spent more money for the Joovy, but the Baby Trend works just fine. I figure we will use this for a year and then sell it & I can finally go back to using my Maclaren Quest for DD2 -- which is by far my favorite stroller.
I have pretty much decided this. DS will be 3 when baby #2 comes and there is no way I want a double stroller. He rarely rides in one anymore anyway and if he needs to, I plan to wear the baby and push him. I do wish there was a standing board I could get for the back of our BOB. I can see that coming in handy for zoo trips etc. but not enough for me to buy a separate sit and stand stroller.?
DS is 3 and we're expecting #2 any day now.
We live in a very urban area- so our stroller is our "car". We can easily walk an hour in a day just to get places. My biggest priority was to find a stroller that could be a single or a double (with an added seat). DS will probably only use the stroller another year or so and then I didn't want to be stuck with an expensive (big) double stroller. So the side-by-side strollers were out for me.
- I looked at the Baby Jogger City Select- I *loved* it b/c the kids can face each other, but the upward age limit is really 2.5 -3, so I ruled it out. Even though DS is a string bean, I didn't want a stroller he had basically grown out of it.
I went with the Uppababy Vista which you can add a rumble seat to. However- this stroller will only work for you if your DC#1 will be less than 35 lbs. until DC#2 is 6 months+ (rumble seat goes to 35 lbs. and DC has to be 6 months min. since it doesn't recline- once DC#1 hits 35 lbs, you swap toddler to the front which goes to 50 lbs. and move #2 to the rumble seat).
I considered the Phil & Teds, but liked the Vista more. P&T also had some issues I didn't like, but could have dealt with if I had no other options.
