Using frozen peaches for homemade baby food?

DD is 7 months old and I have been making her baby food myself so far.  I haven't gotten to peaches yet though because I've had such a hard time finding them since they aren't in season right now.  I decided to just buy a few bags of frozen peaches.  Any tips on how to cook these before pureeing?  I'm guessing just thaw then steam, but I'd rather bake the peaches if possible.  Ideas on temp/time?  TIA!

  • I haven't baked frozen peaches unfortunately.  But I did just what you said, thawed them in the fridge, steam, puree.  They're delicious!  Maybe do it that way for now, and when they're more in season buy fresh ones to bake?

  • I don't even cook the fruit when I use frozen. I just defrost it and puree it down.

  • I often use frozen veggies to make baby food because I have trouble finding organic fresh veggies at my grocery store.  Just treat them like fresh -- you can steam them from frozen.  If you want to bake them, I'd maybe thaw them in the microwave for a bit first.  You don't have to, but you'll be able to get out some excess water if you do.

  • I just bought frozen peaches too, but haven't made them yet.  I'm wondering if you even need to steam them.  If you thaw them, wouldn't they be soft enough to just puree them?

I could be totally wrong though.

  • I made peaches last week, I just threw the frozen peaches in a saute pan with an inch or so of water, cooked till soft, then pureed with the liquid.  it worked really well.  I probably wouldn't bake them because they'd probably get a skin that wouldn't puree very nicely.
  • DS love these! I just defrost and puree.

  • you don't need to cook fruit -- just defrost if it's frozen & puree
  • Sounds good!  Thanks for the ideas everyone!
  • I just steam them directly from the freezer...I don't bother to defrost them.
