I really like "Jake". I like Jacob, too- but like Jake better (and Jacob is #1 in popularity, this was my way of going around that).
Thoughts?
Ugh, due in 6 days. NO boy names. Two girl names that we can somewhat agree on but we both prefer the 'other' girl name.
Re: Anyone name their DS Jake (not Jacob)?
No but I have a Drew and not an Andrew. A few people made comments but whatever.
FWIW, I love Jake and not Jacob so I would do the same
My brother's name is Jason and he goes by Jake.
FWIW, every single Jacob I know goes by Jake, so I don't think you'd be getting around much.
I'm not a huge fan of naming a child one thing, knowing full well that you're going to call him another ALL the time. Go for it! This comes from a mom of a Cal, though (not Calvin), so obviously I"m good with shortened names. The whole "it doesn't SOUND formal" or "doesn't go with my other kids's names" baffles me, too. Who cares?
If DD would have been a boy she would have been Jake.
This one will be Jake if a boy.
I struggled with the same thing you are when naming my second. I just still couldn't be really happy with a name that was soooo popular especially in our area. I didn't want him to have 3 or 4 others in his classes his entire life and even with the name Jake.... so many people use that nickname. And to me, I thought about my kids also as teenagers, then 20 somethings, being in the workforce and possilbly trying to garner respect for older coworkers and younger ones... and I just felt like I'd have to give him a formal name to use if he needed one. So, ultimately I decided against it and I'm really happy with the name we chose....I had a short list that I made up out of frustration. I looked at the social security list from the past year and went down to #200 and down from there. So, I picked it out when in labor walking around the L&D unit....Jeffrey. It fits him and it was #500 2 years ago... most people with that name are my age. And I wanted a nice normal name people could pronounce and spell and he could have a nickname if/when he wants. We prefer to call him by his whole name.
That's just me though.
Go with your gut and your heart.
