Rhogam Injection Vent

Anyone else having issues with insurance paying for the Rhogam shot. My insurance has paid for everything else but is giving my problems with this shot. They will pay for the dr visit but not the prescription. And it is over $200 . I am so annoyed and sick of being on the phone with them.

$200 is nothing compared to having major issues sustaining a pregnancy later in life because you were not properly treated.

This is a battle I would not fight.

  • I will need it in a few months, but have not heard about insurance not covering it.  I agree, I would pay it and get it done with, but can  you appeal and fight the insurance company even afterwards?

What basis are they denying the shot?

  • I find it odd that they are giving you a hard time, it's really not an elective procedure or anything, it needs to occur to keep the child safe. Even in the cost-benefit analysis insurance companies do I'm still surprised they wouldn't cough up the 200 bucks. But to answer your question, I didn't have any problems with my insurance. GL!
  • Holy cow....I've never payed a cent for mine.  I even had two of them around 12 wks for spotting and then, after CVS testing.  I've never heard of this!  I'd continue fighting this one if I were you.

  • Strange, mine was covered with no issues.
  • i think you should fight them. i would, and i'm going to need one too. why are they denying the shot? it seems like a normal and necessary thing to get.

  • And you may need another shot after you give birth. I would absolutely fight it. My previous insurance covered them (28 weeks and after delivery) my first pregnancy and my current insurance covers it this pregnancy.

  • Trust me I am working on it. Been on the phone all day. And I will be getting it no matter what it costs but it is just a pain in the rear for no reason.

  • Mine tried to deny it the first time I received it...and they said it wouldn't go towards my deductible. I had the OBs office resubmit it because there was no way a medically necessary thing like that should be denied AND not count towards a deductible if I ended up having to pay. Once it was resubmitted, insurance covered it without a problem...I really hate insurance companies...esp BCBS!

I don't know why in the world you would not fight it. Obviously $200 is worth a healty pregnancy, but still...you have insurance for a reason. It is medically necessary. I am Rh negative as well, but have not had the shot yet. I would imagine that the issue has something to do with the way the paperwork was submitted. If the insurance company understood what it was, I am sure there is no way they would deny it. I would definitely keep following up.

  • I just found out today that my insurance denied my claim as well calling it "therapeutic services."  It did go toward my deductible, but I'm still fighting.  Let me know if you had any success and how you went about it.  The insurance companies are really screwing themselves over with this kind of treatment...they are going to all be taken over by the government in the end!
