My grandma always used to moisturize her hands while washing dishes. She didn't have a dishwasher in her farmhouse so everything got washed by hand, and that woman could cook! To moisturize, she'd put on a double dose of hand lotion before washing the dishes, then put on rubber gloves and wash the dishes in the hottest water she could get out of the tap.
I, of course, mostly rely on my dishwasher, so I don't use Grandma's tip very often. Tonight, though, I had a bunch of stuff that's not dishwasher safe to wash up, so I lotioned my hands, put on the rubber gloves, and ran the water 'til it was scalding hot.
Not only did my dishes come clean super-fast in that hot water; my hands are soft like a baby's and all the lotion's soaked in -- no greasy lotion residue.
I remember how my grandma, in spite of all the seriously hard farm work she did every day of her life, had gorgeously soft hands. I think I'll be doing this more often myself!
Re: Here's my NBR tip o' the day
I have no idea! That's a good question. Maybe try some actual gardening gloves for the weeds, though? I have a pair of the leather palm/mesh back gloves from Lowes and I love them. They have a close fit, which makes it easy to work with and around even tiny things, but they're nice and stretchy so they're not binding at all. I've had them for three years and they're still going strong. And they don't smell weird.
