DH and I are going to put an offer in on a house today ... problem is, I can't decide between them.

I do have a favourite one, but it's ~40 minutes from my family, which I'm hesitant about.

Would you move to a house you liked better than any others if it were that far from your family (and thus would cause drama for moving that far away), or stay more local and move to a house that is a very close second?

I'm torn.  And I need to decide. Help!

This.  The fact that 40 minutes away would start drama sets off warning bells for me.  I'm thinking the distance might be a good thing.

I live 8 hours away from family, and come from an area where a 30 minute to commute is a good one.  So - 40 minutes from family is nothing to me.  It's up to you, though.  Which is more important to you - being really close to family or the house differences.  Screweth the 'drama' that might ensue.  If you're family is going to give you crap for that, then I'd want to be at LEAST 40 minutes away from them!

As someone who lives across the country from her parents, and 2 1/2 hours from her ILs, a 40 minute drive doesn't sound even remotely problematic. I'd go for the dream house with a little distance.

I would go with the house you love! I live across the country from my parents so to live within 40 min doesn't sound that problematic. Anything within an hour I would say is resonable.
