Austin Babies

ever take a toddler to the ob-gyn?

I have an appt tomorrow - nothing big, just the annual pap.  My friend just cancelled on me because her kid is sick.

I have another friend I could ask, but I feel bad since its short notice.  Ever take a toddler with you to a gyn appt?  I think Layna would be okay playing on the floor, but she freaks out every time a nurse or doctor walks into the room.  So she's going to want to sit on my lap, and I'm not sure how I would manage that with the paper sheet over my legs....

  • I used to bring Taryn all the time when I was pg with Taryn. I just kept her in our small stroller, brought lots of snacks, books and toys to keep her happy.

  • Abby was older, 3, but she went to pretty much all of my appointments with me when I was PG with Joshua.  I always had plenty of books, snacks, toys for her.  It was never an issue for us.
  • I really tried not to take Anderson to my appts.  If you think Layna might freak, I'd either ask the friend or reschedule.  Holding a toddler during a pap sounds less than fun.

  • I took Jack to my early appts. He was all up in my junk. It was awesome.

  • I bring Austin with me to my PG check ups. BUT... everytime she listens to the heartbeat he FREAKS! Just like when I had my ultrasound, he was so upset. He thought she was hurting me. He had to sit right there with me.

After we walked out of the room he pointed to my belly and said, "it hurt?"  He thought she was hurting me. :-)

Yeah, if you think she is going to have to sit on your lap during a pap... ask your friend to watch! I don't think I could handle that. ;-)

  • i took Markhas with me when i was pg with the Peanuts. most often he was just sitting there 'reading' baby magazines. he WANTED to go b/c i was getting my progesterone shot every week and he thought he was my support system and held my hand.

though (when i knew appts would run long) i would bring some cars and/or his dvd player and he would totally just chill

  • I did once and I vowed never again.  It was so hard to keep him happy just sitting in the stroller.  It might have just been that day though.  I'm sure next baby I might have to do it again.
  • Lots of times. The nurses are used to it. When Abby was little, she's just play with one of the techs outside. Now she "hides" behind the little curtain. Not to really sheild her from anything though, I mean she showers with me so it's not like she doesn't know what I look like. But she doesn't need *that* image in her toddler brain!

  • I brought DS #1 to all of my appoinments when I was pregnant with #2.  He seemed to do just fine.  I always made sure to have snacks and toys on hand to distract him.
