Crying at one side while nursing

Hi, Ladies,

For the last week or so I have noticed that DS will nurse for about 5-8 mins on my L side and then begin to cry.  I'm guessing it's got a lower supply and he's having to work hard?  It's never a problem in the morning, but usually appears in the early afternoon and is worst at his last feeding around 830.  Does that sound like a lower supply that is frustrating him?  What are some tips or advice you have?

Oh - and since he was about 4 wks old, he's only nursed one side per session.  And he's fast - no more than 15 mins.  Don't know if that makes any difference as to your thoughts.

Thanks for your help.  I'm so worried I'm going to have to stop BFing for some reason, and I'll be devastated.

  • He's probably just done on that side.  Try not to worry!  Many women have more milk on one side and he probably just finishes faster on that side.

  • DS did this at about 4 weeks as well. I just made sure that I would put him on the slower side first and then switched to the other side. DS is now 10 weeks and eats just find from both breasts.
  • My right side seems to be slower or less supply or my nipple is funny. I use a nipple shield occasionally and it saved my sanity otherwise I get lopsided during the night.
