Due date + internal + bleeding?

This is maybe a silly question but I'm not sure what to think at the moment and don't really want to jump the gun and call my OB/GYN for no reason soooo....

Today is my due date and I had an appointment which included an internal to check my cervix for dilation (there was none...booo).  Its been a couple hours and I'm now bleeding lightly.  I KNOW this can happen after an internal so I don't want to get to excited but is it possible the internal could have triggered things to start?  I've been crampy since yesterday and had I not had the internal I would definitely have taken the bleeding as a labour sign.  Now what?  Do I chalk it up strictly to the internal? Or did the internal maybe stir things up a bit? Any advice?

Re: Due date + internal + bleeding?

  • I had an internal today and my OB said not to worry about light spotting as that is typical after an internal exam. She said if it continued into tomorrow, I had contractions, or it became heavy bleeding then I should worry and call.

Maybe for you it might help!!! GL!

  • It's normal to feel crampy and have some light spotting like the last day of your period.  If it is bright red or there is a large quantity of it along then you should call.

I had an internal on Monday and about an hour later I went to the bathroom and it was bright red with clots.  It didn't stop by the time I got home and soaked my pantyliner and panties.  I went back to dr and was admitted to L&D and just got home.  Thankfully everything calmed down by the next evening but I'm already on meds for PTL and that helped to stop everything.

It can 'stir' things up so just pay attention to your body.  If anything, call in the morning if it is still persistent for peace of mind.

  • I had an internal today with some bleeding afterwards as well (it's slowing down now though)  Unfortunately I would just chalk it up to the internal and nothing to signify labor approaching (believe me I feel your pain too!) But don't worry, LO will be here before you know it! At least that's what I keep telling myself too ;)

  • The internal definitely could get things going, especially if it was a little "rough". What about contractions though - any thing going on there?
