I was wondering in any of you could share your experiences with the West Boca Birthing Pavillion. My doctor delivers there and at Boca Community. I have had a few friends deliver at Boca Community but I don't know much about West Boca. TIA!!
Mine delivers at both as well. I was signed up at BRCH but ended up delivering at West Boca for insurance reasons. My insurance dropped BRCH 4 weeks before my due date.
Anyways, I wouldn't say that my experience at W Boca was horrible but it wasn't the best. Some of the nurses were great. Actually, the nurses caring for me were awesome. But, the nurses for the baby, well, there were a few that I didn't care for and were kinda rude.
As for L&D, I didn't like most of the nurses there either! The first night, my labor was not progressing, I was induced so my doctor wanted to stop pitocin and let me eat a light meal, she was going to let me get some rest that night and start again in the am. When it came time, the nurse said no and was really rude. I told her my doctor said ok and she was very pissy about it!!
From what I've heard, W Boca isn't as BF friendly as well. I was very fortunate that I had no issues but when we did the tour, we were told if there were issues, we'd have to pay for a lactation consultant. The other thing that bothered me was that my husband and I really wanted the baby with us the entire time which I heard BRCH encourages. Every night, they would ask to take the baby and were pretty pushy about it. Now, you may not care so it might not be an issue!
I delivered both babies at BRCH but have several friends that have delivered there. One did not have a great experience due to the fact that they gave her baby a bottle of formula without even asking her first (she was going to bf). There were no complications with the baby so there was no reason for her to be fed.
My other friend, didn't get to see her baby for HOURS because they were busy.
But really other than that, I have heard good things about West Boca, especially their NICU.
Hmm it seems that certain things would need to be hatched out beforehand especially dealing with BFing. Does anyone know if they have private rooms or only semi-private rooms?
I delivered at BCH and LOVED it...and will have #2 there as well. I drive up from Miami to go there, so that goes to show you how much I love it there! I had a wonderful experience...the nurses were so caring. I had a c/section and they were so gentle and patient with me. DD slept in the nursery both nights b/c I couldn't do it...they were very understanding and made me feel good about it; I've heard a few other hospitals wll make you feel like a horrible mother if you send the baby to the nursery over night.

I am 100% a fan of Boca Community. We even went to Broward Medical Center later when Ari had a surgery at 3 months rather than Boca West, because Boca West was requiring an overnight stay and no food for 6 hours and did not tell us he could have pedialyte and did not communicate well with the doctor or us. We were much happier not being at Boca West. We were able to arrive for the surgery at Broward at 8am and out of the hospital with our baby by noon. We were able to see him immediately post op. The people I know who like Boca West mainly like it because of the NICU but you only need that level if you deliver prior to 29 weeks. Otherwise, Boca Community is equal if not better. Your choice really should be based on where you personally feel most comfortable because you will be doing the hardest work of your life there.
I delivered both of my kids at BRCH and loved it. We did consider WBMC, it's right next to my house. The reason I decided not to go there was because if they are busy you have to share a room with another mom. When that happens the fathers can only come during visiting hours and cannot stay the night. If they aren't busy though you get your own room and space for your hubby. It just seemed so much more financially driven than BRCH and I didn't want to chance being on my own at night. Good luck with your decision!

they do have private rooms but our insurance did not cover it. it was $250 per nite and it is first come first serve, if they don't have any, you have to go to the shared rooms. We did the private room but it was really not busy there at all, plenty of rooms and I wish we had the shared room only because I believe my DH could have slept in a regular bed, the pull out in the private room is AWFUL!!
