Dr. Brown's bottle users...

I've always filled the 4 oz. bottles past the "do not fill" line (usually around 5 oz. because that's typically what I pump during each session). I've read online that filling past the line can cause leaky bottles, but I don't think FIL has had any problems feeding DD with them. Lately I've been pumping more than my usual 5 oz. but it's enough milk to still fit in the 4 oz. bottles (probably around 6 oz.). I'm thinking about moving up to the 8 oz. bottles, but if they're only filled two-thirds or three-fourths of the way, will the extra air create air bubbles when DD is eating from them? Or should I just keep using the over-filled bottles?

  • I haven't had any issues with excess bubbles. We've only had the 8 oz bottles, and it's been just fine (bottles are usually at 5 oz).

    Same here.

  • Actually, from what I've heard, overfilling the smaller bottles doesn't allow them to vent properly so I would recommend using the larger ones.
  • We have a ton of 8 oz bottles that I will probably be throwing away since we switched to Born Free because I was A) tired of putting all the parts together B) found that they were leaking because we were overfilling but just annoyed with them in general. I would say move up to avoid milk creating pressure into the brown vent topper thingy and causing it to leak through the nipple.
