s/o FB: Those with a ton of friends

How do you keep up with all of the status updates?  My "friend" numbers are in the double digits still (yeah, I'm a loner, what's it to you?) and I still miss things.  So, how do you keep up when you have like 200-300 friends?  I've always wondered what those news feeds look like.  :)

Re: s/o FB: Those with a ton of friends

  • I hide a lot of people (from hs and stuff..not nesties of course) but I think I still miss things. Sometimes I'll read several pages of updates at one time to catch up.
  • Loading the player...
  • I don't.  Sometimes I make a point to go and check someone's profile if I haven't seen an update in a while.

  • I have hidden all extraneous updates from games, etc. So the only things I see are the things that people actually type in. Even then, I'll only hit "older posts" once or twice before giving up. And I don't even have that many friends.

BF also limits the number of updates you see...only 250 friends' worth. So if you have more than 250 friends, you'll only see activity from 250 of them.

  • Meh, most of my FB friends don't post status updates, it's just a select few who regularly do.  Most of my news feed consists of peoples' farms/cafes/hotels/games scores and other crap like that that I've just been too lazy to block (or to figure out if they even can be blocked).  For me, it's easy to scan over my news feed a few times a day on my iphone when I've got a spare few minutes...

you're not alone so is mine.  Yes

I always wondered the same thing as well. I have all the games blocked (well except for Farmville since I did play that for a while) and still miss things.

  • I block most applications, and eventually just cut out a lot of people I've met from work in other countries.  They can use LinkedIn for that!  That, and I'll go to people's profiles individually once in a while.

This. I also hide people when their updates or links are really political or, in some cases, just annoying.  There are also options to include more updates from certain people. I have it set to show more stuff from my family, BFFs, etc.

This...I also have a married couple that posts the exact same  updates constantly, so I hide one of them.  I do not need to know twice that they are at the movies...

  • I have about 2/3 of them hidden.  Especially the annoying ones that have nothing else to say but Obama bash. Not that I care if you hate Obama, whatever, your choice...but don't you have something else going on in your life that you can talk about?

How funny!  I didn't know that.  How do they decide which 250??!

I don't know. Some kind of magical computing analysis about which updates you respond to, which profiles you view, etc.

Oh, and I think you can specify.

Wow, I guess I'm semi-illiterate when it comes to FB functions.  I had no idea you could so some of these things with it.

  • I have blocked/hidden the dumb games and apps. I try to keep my friends organized into groups. And I log in multiple times a day.

  • They're grouped in categories so I can check updates of specific groups only.  It helps me a ton.

This is funny. I used to have a couple that would status update each other like they were texting each other, like talk through their status updates. It was hilariously annoying!! I think they finally figured out how FB works. It took them a while.

You can have more than 250.

At the bottom of your feed, you can select "edit options" and change the amount of people.  I have mine at the max (5000), not b/c I have 5000 friends, but so I don't exclude anyone. =)
