I had to take DD to the doc for a followup visit (re: her seizure episode yesterday) and I discussed DD's weight at the end of our visit. Even though she's been eating so much better, she hasn't gained anything since her 18 month visit. I'm honestly shocked by what the scale said.
Anyway she suggested toddler formula or pediasure for the extra calories. For those that use one, have you tried all of them? Which one worked better? Did it effect how much LO ate otherwise? What time of day do you have them drink it? Anything else I should know?
Re: Talk to me about Pediasure/Carnation Instant Breakfast/Toddler formula
Because of K's underactive thyroid, she's pretty tiny as well. We give pediasure, and sometimes carnation instant breakfast. We give it after meals and before bed...and if she wakes up in the middle of the night for a cup, we give it to her. We don't deprive her any opportunity to get some calories, you know. It doesn't affect her regular eating, unless dh gives her one before or with lunch like he sometimes does without thinking.
DS has started the carnation instant breakfast for a few weeks. The doctor recommended twice a day to help DS gain weight if that was our choosing. DS fell off the chart one time when he was sick and is now back on.
DH and I chose to give carnation before he goes to daycare and before bed time. Its easier this way rather than the daycare to struggle with doing this.
DD and DS both get carnation instant breakfast in there milk. The both get three 5-6 oz cups a day with one total serving of CIB split between them. DS does not drink all of his, but we are working on that. DD was on high calorie formula from 1-2 years. It was made in a way to give 24 calories per oz instead of 20 (I think that's right). Pediasure is the same thing, just much more expensive and I never had a doctor or nutritionist who recommended it over the other options. Also, oh baby drinkable yogurt is calorie dense. I give milk as a snack. So breakfast, then a couple hours later, milk, then lunch, the milk snack, then dinner, then milk snack about ever 1 to 2 hours.
Both my kids have been FTT at various points.
