Rattle Snake!

Eek! The guys who do our lawn just found a (live) rattle snake in our backyard!  They pushed it under the fence and our of our yard, but that doesn't mean it won't come back.

Gives me the shivers just thinking about it! I guess we won't be venturing back there anytime soone.

Re: Rattle Snake!

  • Ack!!! What if your DS was playing back there this morning!!

We've seen a few snakes but no rattlers yet. Blech!

No kidding!  It just freaks me out.

I think all the rain brought out all the frogs (our neighborhood is rife with them) which must have made the snakes think "Hello Frog Buffet!"  But still, I wish the snakes would head out to some remote field and not my backyard!

  • We had about 6 rattle snakes last year between 4 houses on our block. One was about 5 feet long and another one was a baby (12inches) and bite two of our dogs.

  • Ugh ugh ugh.  You might want to look into getting Snake Away from Home Depot.  It smells nasty (like moth balls) but keeps the snakes out of your yard.  I sprinkled it around the fence every year and haven't had any snakes since.

  • Ugh, I would lose my mind if I ever saw a rattlesnake in my yard. They are nasty and I am so ridiculously petrified of snakes.
  • Ummmmmmmmmm....is it common to have snakes in your backyard here?

I may or may not have a complete nervous breakdown and need to be hospitalized if someone says yes, so choose your answer wisely.

Four types of venomous snakes live in Texas: rattle snakes, coral snakes, copperheads, and cotton mouths (aka water moccasins).

They like to live where there aren't people, but sometimes problems with the weather, their habitat, or their food sources can push them into the more urban parts of cities.  They're not really happy about that as we're not that happy about having them set up camp in our yards.

No, it is not usual to find them in your backyard unless you live in a rural or sub-rural area.  Most of the suburban developments are pretty snake unfriendly.  Just be aware that they do live in and around the city.

  • So...way late and you may not see my reply.  But, uh....next time the lawn guys see a rattlesnake maybe they could, i dunno, run it over with a lawnmower rather than shoving it under the fence?
