What do you pay your nanny if you live in a city?

What do you pay your nanny if you live in a city and they are legal?  I am considering getting a nanny 55 hours a week for one month this summer.  It would most likely be a college girl or a teacher.  I am trying to figure out how much would be fair.  We would be paying them "under the table", since this is a short term thing and I would be in the house or out an about with them, but they would have to do all of the physical child care, including meals and clean up.  They would use my car.

  • We paid our part time nanny $15 an hour. All my friends pay between $12-$15 (for one child at a time).

  • Friends that live in NYC pay their nanny a weekly rate that ranges from $700-$1000 a week.  I live about a half hour outside on NYC and for the month of August, when I need a nanny 4 days a week (as our daycare is closed), I pay $550 a week (4 days, 8:30-3:30 every day).
