Will I know green snot when I see it?

So Ali woke up yesterday with a runny nose. No fever, all smiles, etc., so we took her to school. When I picked her up, apparently they used ALL their tissues on her throughout the day (like, they ran out she was such a snot machine), but they assured me it was clear and not green.

Yesterday evening, when she would sneeze, these giant snot streamers would shoot out of both nostrils and hang down her face. It was truly a sight to behold. I was on high alert for any sign of greenness (she hasn't been sick yet, knockonwood, so I don't really know what I'm looking for), but every time I wiped it was either clear or yellow.

This morning, more snot, but still yellow. Am I an idiot? Is green snot really just yellow snot with just a slight shade of green or is it full-on, you'll-know-it-when-you-see-it green?

Confused

Dear Bump: You suck.

Re: Will I know green snot when I see it?

  • It's definitely a you'll-know-it-when-you-see-it green.  More or a lightish lime green, but it's definitely green and not yellow.

  • Should I be concerned about the sheer amount of snot? I mean really. It's prodigious. With every sneeze, two thick streamers. It dangles.

  • Hilarious. I think you need one of those green shades of snot test strips.

Green is green, like bright green.  You'll know it.  I would keep an eye on the yellow, though.  It can be normal, but mine always have yellow before green.  When it's just allergies, it's always clear and runny as opposed to thick and yellow, white, or green.
  • Sorry I didn't respond in my post before because I was calming my gag reflex after seeing that photo. LOL. Baby bodily fluids don't phase me at all.. but adults, no thank you. Ugh.

Yup. You'll know the thick, yucky green when you see it.

I agree.  Yellow may be a cold especially if it's a lot like you describe.  My DS doesn't run a fever with a cold or show any other signs of sickness he just has thick colored snot.  But there isn't much you can do for that anyway but let it run it's course.

But colds are still contagious, right?

*le sigh* looks like we're out for the GTG this evening. I don't want to risk her snot bombing the table and someone else getting . . . whatever it is she has. Boo.
