AAOBGYN - no 36 wk growth scan ugh!

I went in for my 34wk apt last week and the dr informed me that I would not be getting a 36wk growth scan. :( I was under the impression that they gave everyone a 36wk scan? Isn't it on the list of what to expect at each appointment? I'm thankful because the dr said, "You've had a perfect pregnancy, I see no reason for you to have one" but I'm pissed because my last ultrasound at 28wks SUCKED! They gave me the sucky machine. Instead of going into the room with the 3/4D machine, I got stuck with their older machine that doesn't record onto a dvd and is OLD AS DIRT, the images are horrible!!! At that appointment the dr knew how upset I was and said that he would make sure I got the good machine on my next scan...now I'm not getting another scan. I'm happy to have had a great pregnancy, but I was looking forward to this last ultrasound. I wanted to get the 3D photo when LO actually looked like a baby.

SO - FYI - for anyone else going to get an ultrasound in the special side of the building later on in your pregnancy....schedule it on Tuesdays, they only run the good machine on Tuesday.

Re: AAOBGYN - no 36 wk growth scan ugh!

  • THAT is a tip I need to remember!  Thank you!

How frustrating!  Did you tell him that you got a crappy one before and you just want another shot at it?  Its not the end of the world, for sure, but if its important to you I might call.  I would be disappointed as well.

Congrats on your healthy pregnancy!  That's so amazing!

  • It's just frustrating. I see no need to get another scan. I explained to the dr and the nurse after my 28wk scan that they SPOIL you with the cool machine. So when you get those two appointments - one for the ultrasound tech and one w/the dr...you know you're going to see your baby on the cool machine. So to get the crappy machine is a big disappointment.

Having a healthy pregnancy is so much more important and I am thankful for that. I will get to meet my LO soon so I see no reason to ask for another scan. I'm just pouting and making a PSA about it. I don't want any other Nesties to have to deal with this avoidable situation. You'd think with 9 doctors they could afford another nice machine.

  • I only got 3 ultrasounds - one was medically necessary and was just a quick 5 minute scan to check on his kidneys. The first was at 12 weeks and then I had my "big" u/s at 20 weeks. I think it's awesome that you've gotten to see your LO so much! :) I know it's a disappointment, but try to remember that you have a super healthy baby growing inside of you that you'll be meeting very soon!
  • If it makes you feel any better, I always thought that the earlier u/s were way better as far as seeing a baby. We did have a 36w u/s with Leo, and you couldn't even tell what anything was because he was so big.

Sorry you're disappointed. Luckily the real thing will arrive soon. They're much cuter in color ;)

Yep!  I was SO excited about my 36w u/s with DS and I spent the whole time pretending to see what Dr. S saw because all I saw was a big blob of baby.  The 20ish week u/s was so much cooler.

Sorry you're disappointed, though!  You're almost there!

I was a little concerned that might be the case. I'm mostly over it now, like I mentioned...I'll take a healthy pregnancy over a scan any day! I have been very lucky. I just want to inform all the other nesties...go on Tuesday for your 28 week scan. They'll give you the good machine.

  • on another note, holy cow - you are already 34 weeks?!?!?

  • Yeah, about to celebrate 35/35. Oh ehm geee!!! Starting to think about what to pack in the hospital bag and getting DH to install the car seat.

    C-R-A-Z-Y!!  :o)

  • Who is your Dr at AAOBGYN??  I go in next Monday for a growth U/S, but I'm having a bedside U/S done.
