Egg freezing?

Hi ladies,

DH & I are considering freezing eggs in IVF #2, although we are really up in the air about it. Our RE will do it (for free, although there would be additional costs like more meds and the FET cycle later), but our clinic has not had success with it yet (only 2 attempts) and he can't recommend it.

I know this is a really broad question, but has anyone done it? Or gotten info from their RE about it?

I have more detailed info on my blog (link in siggy) if you're interested, but you don't have to read all that necessarily. Also, I know there is much better success with embryo freezing, but that is something we are not personally comfortable doing so you don't need to suggest it :)

TIA!

Thanks! I knew she did limited fert but didn't know she froze eggs as well. Thanks for the info - I'll page her on SAIF.

  • Hey there!  Paged you over on SAIF...  Wanted to add...just b/c your RE freezes doesn't mean he needs to be the one to thaw.  I do think the success is based on both, so something to consider - you could always change RE's when using the frozen eggs to a clinic that might have more exp with frozen eggs.  Also, if IVF#1 did not work, I considered another fresh cycle and to use the frozen eggs in hopes of DC#2 when I am older.  GL to you and good for you for looking into all your options.  So refreshing.

Thank you - taking the frozen eggs to another RE is such a good point that I hadn't thought of! We, too, would like to do fresh cycles at this point (we have budgeted for up to 3 attempts) and would like to use the frozen eggs for DC #2 (ideally) or if all 3 fresh attempts fail.
