**carlinlp**

I was reading your blog, and I think T has the bed that we wanted to get DD for her big girl bed.  Is it from IKEA?  Do you like it?  I was confused on the website by a comment they had regarding that it can be used as a single bed or a double bed, but what type of mattress to buy if you used as a double. I didn't get that comment based on what I saw in the store.

Thanks!

  • :::butting in:::  I was totally going to email you about this too, haha!  I just had a couple other questions but hopefully they will help out katattack too Smile  Did you use a rail with it at first?  will a typical rail work?  Does a regular twin comforter work with it?   thanks!

  • Hey - yes, it is from IKEA and we LOVE it.  It works perfectly for her and our family.  It is kind of confusing but really cool.  It is a twin size daybed and a bit raised.  Now at 2 Teagan can easily climb up on it as well.  There are 3 HUGE deep drawers for storage under the bed.  Then the drawers and entire under unit part slide out and act as a trundle.  You can add a twin size mattress for sleepovers / guests, etc.  This is huge for us since we don't have a guest room.  When people come stay we usually take the mattress out of Teagan's room and put him to sleep with us.  But you could also throw a twin airbed on there easily.  There is a little lip that comes up in front, so you could use a rail, but it depends on what kind and how it has to be installed.  Personally, we just used a body pillow and then put a pillow on the floor but she never fell out of it.  I've heard of other moms putting one of those swim noodles under the sheet along the open side, which I thought was a cool idea.  I know the description is a bit confusing, I posted a few iphone pics of it on my flickr page HERE.  I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions!
  • Oh, it's a trundle?!  Perfect! I wanted one for her, but figured I'd have to compromise.

Would one of those rails that fits under the mattress work? I think they're mesh and slide under when you're not using it.

  • I tdepends on how big the "hinge" is.  I haven't used one since Ty was little and the hinges were quite big back then.  With T's mattress there is probably 1-2 inches of give between the edge of the mattress and the frame, max.
  • yes, it is a trundle AND you have 3 huge drawers under it.  i loved that aspect!  the phot of the drawer linked above, it only shows about 1/2 as deep as it is.  it runs almost the full width of the bed.
  • Thanks!!!  The photos help a lot, thanks for taking & posting them!
