Anniversary Trip Ideas?

We're looking to get away for our anniversary...I'm thinking Panama City Beach or either Gatlinburg but I kinda wanna do something different. I'll have to be a Sunday-Tuesday b/c of the barbershop and since we're driving I'm thinking no further than 5 hours(I hate long car rides)...suggestions ladies?

Re: Anniversary Trip Ideas?

  • Matt and I went to Savannah last year. It was so much fun! I think it was longer than 5 hours but that's from HSV. May be shorter from Bham.

  • Thanks Brooke! I'm going to New Orleans in June(we go every year with the church) but the other places all look like good candidates.

I also say Savannah!  We went there on our first anniversary and LOVED it! We stayed at The 1895 Inn B&B.

  • I like the Panama City Beach idea.  Hubby and I are looking to go there some time soon.  My other suggestion would've been New Orleans but I see that you already have a trip planned soon.

Yeah...DH and I have been together for almost 8 years and we've only been to the beach while on a cruise...I'd really like to lay out on the beach and chill...as far as NO is concerned my church has been in a fellowship with a church down there for 38 years...I went every year until I was about 16Indifferent

We love going to Okaloosa Island (10 min. outside of Destin.)  It is very quiet, almost all of the rentals come with two beach chairs and an umbrella, and much less crowded.  At night you have the option of driving into Destin for dinner and shopping.  Check www.vrbo.com for great deals.

  • I'll second Chattanooga.  We went there for our baby moon last July and it was so nice and we had fun!

There is tons to do!! And even more places to eat!! Several ladies on here have been as well! My mind is blank right now on names of places.

There is a beach close by too called Tybee Island, if you are wanting the beach. We took a day trip over there.

I really look forward to going back! The only thing I would do different is stay in a historic place/BnB type place. We stayed at the Double Tree which was nice but just a normal hotel becuase we used AMEX points.

    Thanks...he was not having it!

  • If you wanted to you could do both Savannah and the beach. Tybee Island is right off the coast of Savannah and has lots of cute beach homes and B&Bs. It's a completely different feel from the "big condo" beaches of Gulf Shores and PCB, which I like.

Tybee is only a short drive outside of Savannah. You could easily rent a place on Tybee to enjoy the beach, then go in for a day or two of sight seeing in Savannah or go in to Savannah for dinner.

Let me know if you end up going. DH grew up just outside of Savannah and we go down there a lot with my inlaws. From Birmingham, Savannah is about a 6.5 hour drive.

Also... another suggestion. DH and I recently went to Memphis for a weekend and loved it. We stayed at the Peabody, ate ribs at the rendezvoux, and went to see graceland. We had a lot of fun! I think it's only a 3.5 hour drive from Birmingham.

DH and I went to Memphis last summer and "loved" it so much we came back with a baby! LOL!
