My doctor has issued me the usual instructions to call if I am having more than 4 contractions per hour, along with all of the other PTL like things to watch for. I have an irritable uterus that seems to be getting more and more touchy by the day, as it gets bigger and bigger. Because of this, there are some things that I can do that will be guaranteed to make me contract - sitting up from lying down, turning over in bed, bending over, sneezing, etc...I should probably mention that I'm on bed rest and only allowed to get up to use the bathroom and get something to eat.
This morning I had a contraction getting out of bed, then 2 while making toast, another when I sneezed, and another getting back into bed. By my count that makes 5 in 15-20 minutes, which technically I should call about, but I know why I'm having them, and I've only had 1 since laying back down in the past hour and a half. I've read that true PTL contractions are not affected by activity and will escalate rather than come and go, so I don't feel like that's what's going on here and I don't have any other PTL symptoms.
So, WWYD?
ETA: I've guzzled down a couple big glasses of water too, so that may be helping the situation.
Re: Contraction Gray Area - WWYD? (kinda long)
i also had irritable uterus. fun times. while you are drinking plenty, make sure to pee whenever you think you have to go. usually when i had to pee, i'd get a bh cx, which would go away as soon as i peed.
my docs started giving me elaborate guidlines... like don't count the cx if it's b/c you have to pee. don't count the cx if it's less than 45secs.
it's always good to let the ob know what's going on though! maybe you are doing too much... bending down, and making toast might be too much. GL!
This isn't super helpful to you, but this post is why I LOVE this board. I feel so much more normal around here.
I'm the exact same way with knowing what makes bh cx come on. For me it's standing up quickly, half laying on the couch, or (as janjag mentioned) having to pee.
My doctor told me not to count the ones I know I caused and only count those that shouldn't have happened. If they stopped when you laid down and drank water, you're probably fine. Up to you though. Call if you're worried.
