Scooting instead of crawling?

I'm posting on this board because one of my girls is very delayed with gross motor skills. My DD scoots on her butt like crazy all over the house. She never really crawled. I have her in PT and hope this will translate to walking (or proper crawling soon). Does anyone elses LO do this? Did they follow up with crawling or walking? Thanks

Re: Scooting instead of crawling?

  • My ds was a preemie, and he's not crawling yet.  His doctor gave me the name of a development specialist for an evaluation, but I'm still waiting to determine if that is the best plan for us.  Right now, his adjusted age is only 8 months old.  His cousin is a full termer, and is only 2 weeks younger than his adjusted age, and she's not crawling yet either, so I just don't know.

  • My first DD scooted for months, then crawled at 12 months and walked at 18 months.  I have a close friend who is an OT whose DD scooted only until 15 moonths and walked at 19 or 20 months.  SHe also did PT.  Unless there are other areas of delay, I am sure you'll be chasing on two opposite directions in no time!

  • DD was full term + 1week and she still seems to prefer to scoot on her butt. She has been doing it for quite some time. She just recently has become good at rotating off of her bottom into the hands and knees position. She is also starting to pull up, she did both of those in one week. So yes, I think that your LO could go from scooting to crawling/walking all on her own. GL!
  • I am going through this with Ava.  She is nowhere near crawling but I think she may start scooting soon.  She also gets PT for low muscle tone due to the fact she was never on her tummy enough.  I have a feeling she will walk before she ever crawls.  Which is not a big deal but then they have issues pulling up on furniture and crawling up the stairs.  I am hoping she eventually comes around to crawling.
