Baby Names

Brooklyn: Pretty or stupid? Vote

Husband and I were looking at the name book this weekend.  He likes the name Brooke, but I would prefer a 2 syllable name.  What do you think of Brooklyn?  (we would probably call her Brooke most of the time)  I think I'm liking it, but normally I'm not into trendy names, which I feel this one is.  Thoughts?  [Poll]

Re: Brooklyn: Pretty or stupid? Vote

  • I LOVE the name Brooke.  It is on our list.  I think Brooklyn is very cute but DH hates it, and I can just hear my family/friends comments now. If you love it, go for it.

  • i like Brooke much better then Brooklyn, unless the name has a meaning to you and DH.

  • Not to sound silly, but what about Brooke Lynn (first and middle?)  I know a little girl named Brooke Anne and her family calls her that, it's precious and I think it's endearing as well...at school she's Brooke.
  • I don't like Brooklyn at all.

  • Maybe it's because I'm from nyc, but it's not a name. It's a borough of nyc. If you like Brooke, just name her Brooke.

  • I think it sounds really pretty, but at the same time really stupid because it is a borough.  Just can't separate it from the borough in my mind.
  • I think Brooke is really pretty. I don't like Brooklyn though.
  • I really like Brooke by itself. What about Brooke with Lynn as the mn?

  • I honestly like Brooklyn, but it has gotten WAY too popular for my taste
  • I'm a Brooke and love my name, but I dislike Brooklyn as a name, even though it's my nickname. I think Brooke is more classic and ages better. Plus it's spelled like the city - blah.

  • brooke is nice, brooklyn sounds like she has a career on a pole. before my good friend had her baby she said she hated the name her husband wanted to name the baby, brooklyn. i told her i hated it too and it sounds kind of ghetto. well, husband won and they named the baby brooklyn and i felt like such an @sshole! so now, i no longer voice my opinion of possible baby names of friends.
  • Once the Beckham's used it, it became super popular.  I think it's taken a turn for the skanky if you ask me.

  • DH and I kept hearing Brooklyn over and over when we were choosing a name. In our personal opinion, we feel that it's a trend and can't see a grown up Brooklyn (like Dr. Brooklyn or such).

If you need a two syllable name, I'd choose another one. If not, then just name her Brooke!

  • I love the name Brooke...and I can understand the wanting a longer name, but if you're going to call her Brooke then why not just use it?
