Tightening of the tummy

My tummy has been tightening like a contraction but it is only usually when I am walking or standing on my feet.  When I am laying down or sitting, it is fine.  I have a Peri appt on Wednesday.  Just curious if this is normal or not.

Re: Tightening of the tummy

  • I would bet they're braxton-hicks.  I've been getting them on and off as well.  My doctor said you can try to drink some water and lay down, if they're really bothering you.  Otherwise it's normal.  :)

  • Thanks!! I figured as much since they resolve upon sitting but it sure is annoying when I am trying to walk somewhere!!

  • Do they hurt? If not it sounds like braxton hicks.  When I would go walking that would happen to me.  Nurse said to take it easy when that would happen.
  • Ditto the sounding like BH contractions.  Drink lots of water, I would feel them come on when I would get dehydrated.

  • I had those all the time.  Perfectly normal but make sure to tell your peri how often you're having them.  My OB got a little concerned when I started having them more frequently.  It was around this point in my twin PG that I was put on easy bedrest.

  • I started having them frequently around the exact same time. The doctor wasn't concerned until they started coming regularly, were painful and did not resolve when I would get off my feet - which didn't happen until just shy of 35 weeks. It's definitely something to mention when you go in.

  • They are not painful as of yet.  Well, there is pain but it is because someone has a butt or head stuck in my ribs and makes it very hard for Mommy to bend over or bend at the torso.  But other than that it is just a tightening.  I am talking to work about working at home some because it seems that as long as I am sitting, it is pretty okay (not regularly and not very many) but as soon as I get up, it seems the belly tightens right up.

  • I stared getting those at like 24 weeks, although I didn't know what they were at the time. Now I get them all.the.time - I ended up in L&D at 29 weeks because I was having them 1-2 minutes apart and they were making me feel like my period was about to arrive. Luckily, they were harmless. Definitely talk to your OB about it. I think my OB said they usually have people call when they experience more than 6 an hour, but I have them so often I'd be calling every other day, so she said some people just get them a ton and need to figure out what their baseline is and call if they get higher than that.
