So I had a c section this past monday the 12th. Never had any major surgery and just wondering if anyone can give me any info about some things.
Like swelling in the feet. My feet are so swollen it looks like i have huge kankles. Sometimes they are so swollen to the max that it feels like my foot is about to explode. Any ideas on what to do about this, how I can help it. Putting my feet up doesnt help, I have read that you should walk but not for too long or too much, massage. None of those are working.
When was the first time you were able to wear regular clothes, like jeans and regular underwear? I am worried to wear regular underwear because they all go right on my bikini line which is where my incision is at. I know i cant wear regular jeans right now, cause my belly is still kind of big.
Right now thats all the questions I can think of. Any info would be great. Thanks in advance.
Re: C Section info
Married and it feels so good!
I had preeclampsia, so going into the c-section I had swollen feet. After being discharged, the swelling continued so I was put on a diuretic by my OBGYN. That helped a lot. I cannot remember how long it took to wear normal underwear and jeans. I know I wore some boy-short cut underwear (because they came up over the bikini line) for awhile and yoga pants for a long time, but the yoga pants could be just because I love them so much
ETA: Congrats on your LO!!
It can take a few days/weeks for the swelling in your feet to go down. Keep hydrated, elevate your legs, and rest.
Congrats!!!
I forgot to post a picture of him. He was born April 12th at 10pm on the dot. He was 9lbs 4 1/2 ounces 20 1/2 inches long. He was a big boy. Thats why I had a c section.
Congrats!
I never had the feet swelling problem, though I definitely had friends that did. I think it will just take some time.
I started wearing regular clothes - like normal jeans - 2 weeks or so pp. I started wearing regular undies as soon as I got home from the hospital - so about 4 days pp. If memory serves, I did still put a thick pad between my underwear & the incision for a day or so after I got home, but really it didn't take long for it to not bother me anymore. I did worry about the jeans rubbing me wrong, but it wasn't bad.
First off, congrats on your new addition! I have no suggestions of what to do about your feet. Have you talked to your OB about it?
As for your questions:
I wore the lovely underwear that they have at the hospital with the big huge bulky pads. If you run out of them I just wear regular granny style panties because they sit higher than my incision.
As for clothes, I just caved and bought some normal pants to wear back to work. After six weeks I am wearing size 10 pants. I was a size 2 before I got pregnant. It definately is discouraging to hear about girls being able to fit into their pre-pg pants immediately but everybody is different. I was all butt and thighs during my pregnancy. Ha.
Congrats on your little man!
I wore regular undies leaving the hospital, so 4 days pp. I lived in sweatpants/yoga pants for the next week and put on maternity jeans about 2 weeks pp. They didn't bother the incision at all. I am scared to even try on non-mat pants for fear of being disappointed, even though I know its unrealistic to think I could fit in them this soon.
I was so swollen at the end of my pregnancy, so I didn't notice any more obvious swelling after the c/s. I figured it was just residual swelling, but was sad I couldn't tie my shoes still to leave the hospital. Mine just gradually went away, but honestly they still feel a bit wider than usual. And as far as swelling in my hands, I can finally wear both my rings as of this past weekend!

I think a bit of swelling is normal, but if it's painful I would most definitely call your doc. I didn't have any swelling at all, in pregnancy or after my c/s, so I'm not too sure about that. But definitely shouldn't be painful as far as I know.
I gained about 40 lbs during pregnancy so i wasn't able to fit into any of my clothes for a few months. however, I could wear my maternity jeans within the week after my c/s. I didn't bother investing in any "regular" clothes until I'd lost a little weight, maybe around 6 weeks pp. I just wore maternity pants for those 6 weeks or so. I wore the hospital panties for about a week, then I wore regular panties (ones I bought while I was pg, they were granny panties) after that first week.
Highly reccommend getting some of these to wear over your regular panties.

My doc rec'd them, and it helped my incision site and belly feel more secure/comfortable.
