Moving to New Haven HELP!

I'm starting a job at Yale in July and we'll be moving to the New Haven area in May or June. I can't find a single daycare for my 2 year old son! All are either booked (Yale affiliated ones) or start at the age of 3. I think I'll have to look into home daycare or nanny (live-out). We're hoping to move to East Rock neighborhood so we can make do with one car.

Any recommendations on how to find those in the area?

Also any pediatrician recs?

Re: Moving to New Haven HELP!

  • HAve you looked into the kindercare at Long Wharf? I have a friend who has a two year old there and she loves it! There are also several Kid Connections in the surrounding towns, East Haven, Branford. Have you put your name on the waiting list at Yale affiliated ones? Sometime you can get in after people leave in May. Hope that helps! You can also go to info 211 at https://search.211childcare.org/ to look at childcare center in Connecticut

Hope that helps! I work at Yale New Haven Hospital and know how difficult it can be to find childcare!!

    Good Luck!

  • I don't have a baby yet, so I can't help with any recs. But I live in East Rock while my DH is studying at Yale. Welcome to the neighborhood!

  • We live in East Rock and had the same problem finding openings. We couldn't even get many places to call us back. We ended up getting into St. Rita's daycare in Hamden which is about 2 miles up the road on Whitney Ave. It is attached to the Catholic school there so I'm not sure how you feel about that but the people there were so nice and the "classes" are really small. We were planning on starting our baby there this fall (he would be 6 months old) but unfortunately we're moving to TX! I'm really bummed too because I was really excited to find such a nice place with great people!

I'm also bummed to be leaving our pediatrician. Dr. Griffin of Pediatric and Medical Associates is the best! I love this practice. Everyone is so nice and friendly and the place is never crowded. My son was premature and we were going to see her almost every other day for the first 3 weeks and she and the rest of the staff were wonderful.

     Good luck!

  • I'm assuming that you'll be on the yale health plan?? the pediatricians there are really great. there are several great daycares in the East Rock neighborhood. have you checked out Apple Tree? Cuddle Time? Creating Kids downtown?
