The doctors informed me that at 15 weeks, I have placenta previa and gave me a few suggestions to keep everything safe. One of the orders was to not have sex for the next month and a half. You would think this wouldn't be very difficult, but I don't think my boyfriend and I can abide by this. I know we have to if it is absolutely mandatory and endangering to my uterus/growing child.
Does anybody have any thoughts, have they experienced the same problem and found that sex is not dangerous or detrimental on this condition or the health of the child?
Please let me know any information,
Thanks!
Re: Placenta Previa!?
With a full placenta previa it means that the placenta is lying directly over the cervix. This puts you at a high risk of bleeding/hemorrhaging and also for pre-term labor. Placenta Previa will usually correct itself as the uterus grows the placenta will move higher and away from the cervix. It's very important to follow the recommendations from your doctor as far as pelvic rest goes and when you have the follow up ultrasound if it has moved they will give you the all clear. I had a marginal previa with both pregnancies and did have bleeding with one of my pregnancies and it resulted in pre-term labor which was very scary.
There are of course other ways you can be intimate without having intercourse but should also talk with you doctor about whether or not it is safe if you were to have an orgasm though as sometimes that's a no-no too.
Good luck and I hope it corrects as you progress through the pregnancy.
Thank you for responding.
I have a doctor appointment tomorrow and will ask about the other intimacies, that's what we've been doing. But we're pretty nervous even about that. I'm not really sure either what type; marginal or full.
LISTEN TO YOUR DOCTOR! Why would you question something like this?
If you and your boyfriend can't listen to your doctor's instructions about abstaining from sex, how are you going to have the maturity to raise a child together?
(FYI - if the previa does not correct itself, you may very well have to go the rest of your pregnancy plus the healing time afterward)
I had previa early on (9 weeks) which resolved itself by 19 weeks. However, for several other reasons, I was put on "pelvic rest" at various times throughout my pregnancy. It is for your own good, and the good of your baby. Why would you even think of risking it???
And the further along you get, you may very well have zero desire for it anyhow!
The doctor told me it corrects itself?
Well anyways, we're following it now.
Good luck! I hope it does correct itself. Keep us posted.
