My dad is riding in the BP MS 150, but only tomorrow's leg because of my mom's surgery. Monte is taking him to La Grange and will be hanging around the area while my dad rides. Some of y'all may remember last year's debacle. My dad is on blood pressure meds that make him dehydrate easily, but even though he had a physical specifically to clear him for the ride his GP did not warn him of this. He passed out and ended up in the hospital. So, tonight I asked him to please print off the route the support vehicles are supposed to take because we don't have our computers here. He told me that Monte should just ride along the bike route, which they are specifically NOT supposed to do. I argued that there is a reason for the rule and he said Monte needed to follow the regular route because that is how my mom found him being loaded on the ambulance last year. I said he just needed to write his info on the back of his number like they say to and follow the effing rules because they are there for a reason. So I leave for HEB and he hands Monte a card with the regular bike route. Sigh. Should I just let it be? I suspect he is nervous because of what happened last year. I think I may be overreacting because my dad constantly acts like the rules apply to everyone but him and so this is a "thing" for me. I am worried about him and I want what is best for him, but at the same time I absolutely think Monte has a responsibility to follow the rules for the safety of all of the cyclists. So WWYD? Push for Monte to follow the correct route or leave it alone?

Re: Grrrr...my dad. WWYD
Well, I would push for Monte to follow the rules, but I'm pretty much a rule-follower...
Is the route somewhere online where I (or one of us) could find it and email it to you? That way you can give it to Monte, but not bring it up with your dad again...
I'll be up and available until about 6am-ish, if you want to email me (or post your email address here), I can try to find it and email it to you if you're up that early...

ETA: Sorry your dad's being so stubborn! I wish him luck on his ride, and will be hoping he completes it without incident!

So I was just looking at the website for the ride and found a map of the course, with a "Suggested Vehicle Route" included on it. Basically, the suggested vehicle route seems to be US 290 from LaGrange to IH-35 in Austin, then South on IH-35 to the finish line/site. It does explicity say that no personal support vehicles are to ride the cyclists route, and that unauthorized vehicles on the cyclists' route "will be removed"...
I don't know if you were looking for something more detailed than that? If Monte were to stay on US 290, and something happened and he needed to get to your dad, he could take any number of roads South to the cyclists route (Hwy 77, Hwy 95, etc - there are probably a lot more that weren't shown on that map) depending on where your dad was.
