2nd Trimester

Rash?

Ugh, a new symptom this week.  Itchy red raised spots on my inner thigh, and now on my upper arm (inside) and on my upper chest. . . . and I've been itching on my face and neck, but avoiding scratching!  I have a doctor's appointment in aobut 10 days, should I wait or call this week?

Re: Rash?

  • Well it SOUNDS like something I had aswell..My doc just told me it was one of the lovely parts of having a baby...But If you feel you should call then go for it. Better not to be worried and stressed!

  • I've developed a lovely rash on my upper arms. Little red bumps that you can feel. Not really itchy just looks so bad. Called the nurse yesterday and she said it's the joys of pg. She suggested taking some Benedryl. If the redness gets worse or too itchy than she said to call back. GL!

  • I'll go out for some benadryl in the morning!  Thanks ladies... I was getting worried I had contracted the "creeping crud".   If it gets worse by Monday, I'm going to give the doc a call!  Ick!

  • I've had a rash with both my pregnancies. The first it was just on my hands. With this pregnancy it is all over my arms and legs. a little on my neck/chest area, but not much. It is from changes in hormones in my body.

Check your safe drug lists on the benedryl or call your Dr. and then try it if they give you the green light. It was something my Dr. wanted me to avoid :-)

    Good Luck!

  • I would call your doctor and get it checked out.  It probably is just a rash from pregnancy but you want to rule out PUPPS and cholestasis.   I had PUPPS when I was pregnant with my son and it was miserable but nothing compared to my friend who had cholestasis- it affects the liver and is very serious.  I'm not trying to freak you out- it's just better to tell your doctor and have them rule out the serious things.
3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.

I would call. 10 days is a long time to suffer. At one of my first appointments the midwife told me to let them know if I get a rash that is itchy or spreading, so it's something they like to know about.
