When you say it aloud does it sound too much like you are saying Alaina?

When I say it out loud it sounds nothing like Alaina. I thought it was a poorly spelled version of Helena. I like the name (esp nn Hallie!) but I don't know about the spelling.

From the pronunciation you listed, it sounds like the name Helena to me (which some pronounce that way and some pronounce hel-ay-nah). I don't like the spelling Halina. It just looks weird to me for some reason. I'm not really familiar with the name though, so maybe these are two completely separate names. I do think it sounds pretty though.

My boss is Helena and we pronounce it Ha-leen-ah. I don't like the spelling of Halina.  It looks made up. 

Helena, pronounced Ha-leen-ah? That is really strange, and goes against English language rules for pronunciation... Is she originally from another country?
