Pregnant after a Loss

Has anyone heard of the "nub theory"

I have recently heard of the "nub theory" to guess the gender of the baby when you have your NT scan at 11-13 weeks.  Has anyone ever heard of this??  Was it accurate for your child (if you know what you're having)?  I'm dying to find out what DC #2 will be as this will probably be our last and DH is really hoping for a girl this time.

Re: Has anyone heard of the "nub theory"

  • Does that mean you look for a nub on the u/s? I don't think I could trust it since both boys and girls can look the same so early on.

  • i know they can faily accurately tell gender of the baby at 12-13 weeks depending on the angle of the "nub" boys point up and girls point down....you have to have a good tech and baby in good position though....but i've ready they can be over90% sure at that stage
1 chemical and 1 loss at 9 weeks prior to DS
    IVF #1 1/10-transfered 2 blasts- DS born 10/2010

    Trying for # 2 since 2012.  2 failed FETS 1 failed IUI.

    March 2015- Chemical pg

    1/25/16- BFP  Beta1 12dpo = 17, Beta 2 14 dpo = 28.. resulted in one beautiful boy born 9/21/16 :)

I've never heard of that. I wonder how you can tell where it's pointing. I'd suck horribly at being a u/s tech. Everything looks the same to me.

  • Yes, I read all about it on the website PP posted. At my NT scan at 13 weeks my tech said she was fairly certain he was a boy. It was confirmed at my 18 week big u/s. I think it's definitely possible, although not always an exact science. Good luck! :)
