Anyone own a Toyota Sequoia?

We're looking at a used 2009 and I really like it.  Just curious what others think of it.  We want something with plenty of room for at least 2 kids and all of the stuff that goes with that!  We're looking at a Tahoe too but Toyota's have generally a really good reputation.  My DH is a mechanic and agrees but Tahoe's can be run into the ground too.  Please share!

  • Ooh, can I judge them, too?

    j/k.

  • That is my dream vehicle!  Once the kids get out of carseats and my short self doesn't have to pick them up so much to get them buckled in, that's what I have my sights set on...

I *think* mlf has one.  I'm jealous.

I think so, too.  I think it makes her butt look big.

  • MY BUTT IS TINY!  MICROSCOPIC!  Biitches.

    Anyway.

Yes!  I have a Sequoia and wow, do I love it.  I had one that I'd gotten the year we got married and I loved it SO much.  I was in the real estate business and drove that thing all over - never one service issue and tons of room for my clients, signage, big huge dog, great for boat pulling, etc.  Then we moved here and I thought I wanted something smaller, so I traded it off for a Highlander and pretty much regretted that from day 1.  I'd almost cry when I saw a Sequoia, it was that bad.  (And before you think I'm crazy, know that I'm just a little car obsessed because I have a car dealer dad and a car business husband.)

So anyway, we got another Sequoia before DD was born, it's an '08 Limited. (Funny - we also considered the Tahoe as well, but in the end I just felt more comfortable with Toyota.)  It's perfect for the kids - plenty of room for two big car seats in the 2nd row but an adult can still fit in the middle seat if need be.  The 3rd row is roomy, and if you fold up the seats, there's plenty of room for a double stroller and groceries.  If you take the seats out you can fit a ton back there for road trips or whatever.  We also went for one with leather (easy clean up with kids) and a DVD player built in for when DS is a little bigger.

My biggest piece of advice is NOT to get the captain's chairs in the 2nd row.  DH was really pushing for that but I won in the end, and I'm so glad - with the baby you probably want to ride in the back beside the carseat sometimes, and that's obviously not possible with no side by side seats.

I looked at the Highlander for about 2 days and thought I would for sure regret it so I'm glad you mentioned it.  One of my biggest things has been not to get one with the captain's chairs for the same reasons you mentioned.  I'm so happy to hear you like it so much.  This one has leather and again it's for the  same reason you mentioned.  Puke would be so much easier to clean up than on cloth.  I wouldn't want to scrub it in 100 degree weather!  This one is an SR5 so I guess that's the middle one??  How is it on gas?

  • I have an '05 Tahoe and haven't had any huge problems with it. In fact, I just took it to the dealership for the first time last week to get something fixed (the lock was broken on the hatch). I would definitely recommend a Tahoe over the Sequoia, especially with the problems Toyota has been having lately:
