cleats for 4 year olds?

DD has her first soccer game tomorrow and the info we were given said that she should wear cleats.  I played soccer my whole life so I know what's involved and I kinda think cleats for kids that young are unneccesary.  I'm just wondering if any of your kids are playing soccer and wear cleats.  Thanks!!

Re: cleats for 4 year olds?

  • Yup and every year since then (8 years). It's been a lot of cleats. :)

If you have a Play it Again Sports, its a great place to get cleats for little ones.

  • When DD played in kindergarten, they had to have cleats, but I agree it was a little silly for kids that young.  The consignment shop where I used to sell clothes did a great business in soccer cleats!

  • I got some for dd at Dunhams
  • If you have a Once Upon a Child, I'd check there too. That's where I get Caleb's cleats from.
  • cleats were optional for our u4 league.

    I agree - totally unnecessary.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • My 6 year old plays (just turned 6) and the main reason for cleats for him is if the grass is wet they'll slip and fall easier. They play at 9 am so there is still definitely dew on the grass still.

FWIW, his cleats are not spiky at all. They are just flat bumps all over the bottom of the shoe.
