Tip acupuncturist?

I have no clue... 

I have my first acupuncture appt this afternoon. She works out of a spa and is also a massage therapist, but i've heard you don't need to tip acupuncturists? should i just ask/

  • I think it depends on the office/set up. Mine was more like a doctor's office or a chiropractor, so tipping would have seemed odd. Personally I look at it as medical service, not a spa service so I don't think tipping is necessary (or appropriate really) but I know others that do tip.

  • I have never because regardless of where they practice, they charge accordingly like a doctor's office.

  • My gut says no, because I also think of it as more of a medical procedure.

    But because it's out of a spa, it doesn't sound like they'll be taking your insurance card or anything! 

    I'm still leaning toward no, though.

    In a spa, I think I might, just like I tip a massage therapist in a spa. 
  • i ended up not tipping. i asked her. she says she gets this question a lot, and even though she also does massage, for acupuncture she doesn't accept tips b/c its more medical.
