Austin Babies

I seriously neep nap help.

I worked so hard between 7-9 months to get Campbell to nap. We started a naptime routine and did Ferber for naps. We got to where she would nap 75 minutes in the morning and afternoon. Usually she would go down without any fussing at all but occasionally she would fuss for a minute or 2 and then be down for the count.

The last few weeks I cannot get her to nap for anything. We haven't done anything differently and she's still sleeping just fine at night. I know she is tired because I am watching for her cues to know when to start her nap routine. I've tried re-Ferberizing but she just screams and screams for the entire 30 minutes and doesn't end up sleeping at all. I have also tried rocking her until she is completely asleep and then putting her in the crib, but even if she's completely out, she is awake and screaming by the time I get to her door. I've even tried taking a nap with her, but she just plays and tries to crawl all over the bed and climb on me when I lay down with her.

At this point, it seems like the only thing that will work is to rock her or nurse her for the entire nap and I know that this makes me horrible, but I just can't do that. I need a few minutes during the day for my sanity.

I am almost in tears and I don't know what to do. We were at the pedi yesterday for a weight check and she said that she looked good, so I don't think it's an EI or anything like that.  Any suggestions?

  • We're in the same boat.  Maybe Campbell is finally going to sprout out some teeth?

  • Yup. G is teething and has been for a week. No sleep for mama. She screams when I put her down and usually goes right to sleep.
  • I IMMEDIATELY thought teething as well.  Anderson has always been a champion sleeper except when he's teething, then he's a sleepless maniac.

I'm sorry I don't have a magic fix.  Are you trying Tylenol and Motrin at all in case it is teething?  And you're NOT horrible.  You need to stay sane to be a good mommy, and some crying never hurt a kid.  Hang in there!

  • I would try giving her motrin before her next nap. If it helps, it's probably a teething thing. Leo always has a hard time napping when teeth are coming in.

GL, I hope it passes. I know how hard it is to go all day without a break!

  • We all know that C is a terrible napper as well, but for him it is more a matter of only napping for about 30 minutes.  He was always good about going to sleep initially.  However, that changed when he was teething.  He was very clingy, had no appetite, and was just fussy in general.  You should try the motrin and also some teething tablets...it's worth a try!
Hope you can get some rest soon AND a stiff drink :-)
