Hi, I'm a big time lurker on this board but don't really post much due to work.
I was just wondering if any of you with MFI had issues with low volume? DH had a SA done in January and his volume was 1ml and everything else was normal. Yesterday he had another one done at through our RE's lab and again low volume (1.3ml) and all the other numbers seemed fine (210mil count). We didn't get the Morphology number yet because they didn't have it back in time for our appointment. The RE didn't seem too concerned about the low volume but she did mention that IUI would probably be the route we will have to take.
Is there any that can help to increase volume? Should this be something to be concerned about?
Re: MFI - experiences with low volume?
I'm taking a chance in responding, so I hope it's OK.
My husband had low volume in his SA, but a pretty good count and everything else. We were referred right to IUI, and would have been even if I didn't have the ovulation problems I did based on the low volume alone.
The reason the RE explained to us was that based on the low volume there isn't enough seminal fluid to liquefy and allow the sperm to reach the cervix. Therefore even though the count was OK, the sperm can't get there. Also his semen tended to be more concentrated and a bit thicker because of it, therefore if we had to repeat again the RE said he would use an enzyme called hyaluronadase during the was to break up the fluid a little and make it easier to wash.
There is nothing you can do to increase volume, and there isn't really a reason it occurs.
Best of luck to you and your husband.

Thanks for the replies. It's helpful to read stories from other people going through the same thing.
Scigrlnyc, thanks for the detailed explanation. It makes a lot of sense.
