I don't eat bananas very often, because as long as I can remember they've always given me kind of an upset stomach. Every now and then though, I eat some because I'm convinced that they can't really be making me sick...I mean no one is allergic to bananas, right?
Well today I made Leo and myself a snack of crackers with peanut butter and small slices of banana. I had three crackers...maybe 1/4 of the banana and I felt so sick. I basically laid down and felt like crap from 4-7. I told DH I felt like a weird combination of hungover and drugged. I feel better now. They've never made me feel that bad before, especially not after eating such a little bit.
Well I googled it, and found that sensitivity to bananas can sometimes be related to latex allergies. Then I looked at this list of foods that can be related to latex allergies and I am sensitive to several of them - avocado, carrots, and melon all give me an itchy mouth. Now I'm freaking myself out. I've never had a reaction to latex before and I do tend to...um...kind of get myself worked up over these things, lol. Anyone else sensitive to bananas and not allergic to latex? Heard of this before?
Re: NBR: Bananas making me sick?
I'm allergic to latex, but can eat bananas and avocados. However, I can't pick figs from our tree b/c they ooze rubber.
