Apparently...

You either can't keep KA's tacos cooking for 10 hours on low

or

I'm an idiot and did something else wrong...

or

I've just gotta add more fluid!

I came home to a black mess in my crockpot. I think I might be able to salvage the chicken....we will soon see!!!

Any ideas of how I can fix my problem, more fluids, less time, both?  My only issue is that I am gone at least 10 hours a day from the house.  Maybey I am not meant to enjoy these ever so popular and tasty tacos :(

Re: Apparently...

  • When I made it I had it in the crockpot on low for 5 or 6 hours I believe and it turned out perfect.  I started mine when I went home for lunch and let it cook between lunch and when I got home from work.  Maybe cook them on a Sunday so you can enjoy the leftovers the beginning of the week! :)

  • If you think you may start using your crockpot a bunch then I would suggest investing in one with a timer that switches automatically to warm after it reaches whatever time you set it to. Adding more liquid might work - not sure. Or trying it on the weekend is a good idea.

  • Do you have one of the "hot" cookers?  Some of them are known to cook super hot.  I wanted to get a new one, but the reviews of most are so poor that I ended up just sticking with my old broken-knobbed cooker which I know cooks evenly and not too hot.
  • A bunch of people had problems with one particular crock pot. I don't remember which one. Maybe one of them will help ya out.

I've put mine in before our day starts and left them all day and they've been fine. (nearly 12 hours later)

  • I have a hot cooker and am gone all day.  The first time it turned out like yours. Next time, I just added a bunch of chicken broth - worked great!
  • That happened to me...I have a super hot crock. The next time I made them I nearly doubled the water and added a little more pico. Oh, and I was using super thin chicken breasts when I messed mine up. Be sure to use thick, frozen breasts next time.

I have one that goes to warm after the cooking time :( Next time I will try to add some chicken broth and see how that turns out.

The chicken was actually edible, I just wrapped in a refried bean tortilla and added some cheese.  DH and I actually went back for seconds! Thanks for all of the advise and help!
