PIO - Instructions?

The Freedom Med Teach website is down, and my RE's office didn't give us videos on injecting progesterone.  It seems pretty self-explainatory, but can you ladies just let me know if I'm missing anything?  This is my understanding of how to do it.

1.  Pull back on plunger of 3 mL syringe with 22 gauge 1 1/2" needle (1cc for me).

2.  Pierce progesterone, and inject air into vial.

3.  Turn vial upside down and draw up dose of PIO (1cc for me).

4.  Get air bubbles out - push plunger until a small drop of liquid appears.

5.  Swab down butt w/ alcohol.

6.  Put needle in.

7.  Pull back a little on plunger to look for blood.  If there is blood, remove needle, change, and try a different injection site.

8.  When done injecting, rub area and apply heat.

That's it, right?

Re: PIO - Instructions?

  • Sounds about right, but usually you draw up the med with an 18g then switch the needle to the 22g to inject :) GL!

(We break the rules, and never check for blood) the nurse even told me not to stress over checking...

  • Loading the player...
  • Yep it sound right to me..I also iced the site for few min to numb the area before injecting and make sure to switch injection sites every time. Good luck
  • Same as the trigger shot. However, I was told not to ice since it is oil and that can make it harder to go in and distribute. Make sure you switch needles after drawing up the liquid. They dull really easily. Good luck! (And it's totally not bad at all).
