NBR - Soooooooo unfair!

We bought our house at the end of 2008.  We were super excited because it was a foreclosure that hadn't been destroyed, and the only work we need to do is updating and repainting, etc. and it cost half the price of what it sold for in 2004.

The house across the street has been vacant and in the foreclosure process since before we bought ours.  The for sale sign went up last week, so I was super excited, cause it only gets the lawn mowed because we have a nice neighbor down the street that did it every few weeks, but the rest looked like crap because no one weeded and it was empty.

For the last two weeks, they have been doing a ton of work on it...got weeded, put in sod in the back yard, full paint inside & out, new appliances...and it's not even sold yet!  Why couldn't that bank have our house!  All they did for ours was clean out the junk (which they put in the garbage can, recycle can and lawn waste can and we had to clean out because the garbage truck won't take garbage that's in the other two.  We even discovered every single manual for the house in the trash too!)  Soooo unfair that the new owners will get a like new house when we had to do all that ourselves!  Haven't even repainted yet except for Master bath and nursery.  No fair!

And yes, I'm whining even though I know we're lucky to be homeowners that are paying less in mortgage than we used to in rent!

  • The Listing Agent is respopnsible for keeping the property up to code. I do REO closings (sales of foreclosed properties where the property is currently bank-owned). Sometimes they don't do it and they get code violations for it and other times they get away with it until the property sells.

How is new paint and sod for the backyard code violations though?  They were painting the outside today, and it looked like every other house on the street before!

  • They're probably just making it pretty so it'll sell faster and at a higher price.
