What did you do at your kids' party that was a hit with the kids?

We're having a dinosaur-themed party for DS's 4th birthday in June. I'm looking for ideas for activities for the kids and/or party favors. What have you done at your kid's party that was a big hit?

Arent you good already knowing what type of party you are having.  My daughter will be 4 at the end of May.....Cant wait to see what people respond.  How about a pinata??
  • For B's first Birthday we didn't do favors, we got a candy cart, it was filled with all kinds of junk, candy, cotton candy, popcorn, chips. It was insanity. The kids all loved it and got to fill their bags full of crap :)

  • We get a bounce house since there are SO many kids on both sides of our families, and they range in age from infants to 10 year olds. They all (except for the babies) really like it.

  • At ds's dino themed party we had paint your own goodie bags with dino stamps and craft paint, Those little capsules that have sponge dinos in them with a bowl of warm water so they could "grow" their dino right there, a dino hunt in the sand box (easter eggs filled with dino stickers, plastic dinos, bone candy, etc). Those were the fav things. :)

  • One year I got those foam sticky shapes from Michael's and little pails and set up a table to decorate them.  That was a huge hit.

We've also asked the fire dept to come by with the fire truck a couple times.  They let the kids climb all over it, hand out hats and Elmo fireman coloring books - it's awesome and totally free!

  • We had a Tinker bell party & did a buried treasure hunt.  We put dry rice in a sand table (inside - March b-day) and buried jewels, gold coins, rings, etc.  The kids dug around & filled up their goody bags that way.  You could do a dinosaur bone dig in a sand box.  Either with plastic bones or wooden puzzle pieces (I've seen these at Michael's) or dinosaur figures.  Give each kid a shovel & bucket as part of the favor too.
