Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! Expecting again after IVF
Honestly, if I were in your situation, I'd consider looking at what other programs your agency offers and see if any of them fit your family. If so, you can start pulling a dossier together for one of them. If the Russian thing is worked out quickly and diplomatically, you shouldn't be out much, and if it's not, at least you'll still be on your way to growing your family. If Russia sticks to its demands that new rules must be developed before they will allow any further adoptions, it's likely to be quite a while.
My heart breaks for you and for all the families in progress--especially those who were close to bringing their child home/have already met their child.
Honestly, if I were in your situation, I'd wait up to a month and see what happens... Aren't representatives from the US State Department going to Moscow tomorrow or Monday to begin talks with the Russians? Right now, I'd sit tight for a couple weeks, and keep in touch with your agency about what your options might be.
Like Capt.Serious, my heart breaks for all the families who were in progress and especially those who've already met their child(ren) but haven't yet been to court.
The State Department just announced that Russian adoptions are NOT suspended despite rumors they are! Hope this continues to hold true.
I've seen a bunch of media reporting that a spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry says otherwise. So much confusion this past week! It's crazy.
At any rate, there are people from the US State Dept. going to Moscow soon, so if I were you, OP, I'd hang tight and wait a few weeks until the dust settles a bit.
Re: Russian adoptions suspended
I'm so sorry to hear that. Have you consulted with your agency to see what they recommend?
::HUGS::
I've been thinking about all of you working towards your Russian adoptions. I second the PP. Contact your agency and see what they have to say.
GL!
I am so very sorry.
