We're not big meat eaters in this house, and honestly I wish we didn't even have to feed LO meat, so I have no idea how to make it for him? and do we have to?
We did just for the first time last night. DH cooked on a pan w little olive oil and gave to LO in small pieces. Today he blended it into paste and added it to some avacado. Ive been lazy on the adding new things lately
A cookbook that I have suggests using lean ground turkey, lean ground beef, and ground lamb(if you go that way). I suppose you could use ground chicken too. I haven't done it yet, but it sounds like it might be the easiest.
The other day I made a chicken, sweet potato and apple mixture according to a receip on wholesomebabyfood.com The meat came out quite tender and I could just tear off little tiny pieces of it. I also gound some of the mixture with our little hand babyfood grinder.
Another option for protein that we just tried today was tofu! I've never tried it before, until today of course, and he could not eat it fast enough! I think the brand was Nasoya or something like that and it's organic.
At first I baked chicken and pureed it with steamed veggies. Any more I just puree our left overs, everything from leftover steak to the ham we had at easter. I add a lil chicken or beef stock to it, and while it turns DH's stomach, its super easy.
Canada health recommends starting meat immediately, so chicken was my little guy's 3rd food... I boil all the meats I have done so far (chicken, turkey, beef) like stew, with celery, onion, carrots and potato, then I puree all together with the juice from the stew. Me especially loves the beef stew like this. He has also had roasted meats, as he is starting to eat strait off the table.
I'd been thinking the same thing, but I know my doc recommends not starting meat until 9 months, so we'll wait until their 9 mth appt. I'm use to pureeing everything, because after I had my gastric bypass surgery, I was on a strict puree diet for a few weeks....I pureed chicken and turkey mainly.
I got some organic deli turkey cut into thicker slices than usual. Then I cut that into small cubes that DS can feed himself and can't choke on. He loved it!

Re: for those who make their own baby food
I don't think you have to give your LO meat; you would just need to make sure they got protein in some other way.
I'm making dd's food but not her meat. I just couldn't stomach pureeing it! I have bought the Gerber meats and added in vegetables that I pureed.

The Earth's Best meats are pretty nice also.
