Baby stomach bug question

M poor little guy has a stomach bug. :(  He's had very loose stools all day and has been throwing up, not just spit up, but actual can't-hold-food-down-throw-up.  My question is, if I can't get him to keep food down, do I just cut it out completely and stick to only nursing/bottle feeding him?  I went to the pedi but totally blanked out on this question while I was asking my 400 other questions. Tongue Tied

Thanks!

Re: Baby stomach bug question

  • Colton had food posioning at about 7 months old.  The pedi instructed me to only nurse him (in small quantities) till he could keep it down.  The only other thing that helped him get better was pedialite.  I don't think he ate any solid food (only milk) even for a day or two after he was better.  Of course we were on the road at the time and the last thing I wanted was for him to get worse!

  • Poor kiddo!  When A was throwing up, we didn't give him food.  I gave him tiny sips of water, then when he was holding that down, we gave him Gatorade (he wouldn't take Pedialyte).  The next morning, when he hadn't thrown up for awhile, I gave him jello and some dry toast.

    Hope he's better soon!

  • Thanks so much for the advice ladies! I called the nurse line and she said to hold off on the solids for 24 hours until he's a bit better in the tummy.
