nbr: eeeek! (and a bit embarrassed....)

Totally nbr, but I just got an e-mail asking me to author a college textbook!

Here's the embarrassing part:  the editor has the same name as someone I had a brief fling with back in the day (WAY before marriage).  It was an interesting fling.  Very short fling.  I'm hoping hoping hoping that this guy just has the same NAME and is a totally different person.  I have to meet with him in person in a couple of weeks.  If it is the same guy do I just pretend I don't remember?  What are the odds!

  • Congrats, very cool!

I'd be trying to do some research (i.e., googling) on this editor to see if I could figure out if it's the same guy!

And ... Uh ... eeks, don't know what to tell you, other than we all live in fear of that same situation, I'm sure. Or at least, I'm sure it's not just me Wink

  • Congrats!!

If it's him, which I assume, no sense in pretending not to remember it if it comes up, but as polite adults shouldn't come up in any lewd manner hopefully!  Just an Ahhhh, I remember you!

  • How cool.  And funny.
  • congrats!  let us know if it is him
  • oh my, I googled.  Same guy.  I'm going to file this one under the "how to teach my daughter to think before she acts" lesson.  Never in my wildest dreams would I thought I'd run into him again, especially in a professional situation.  Ugh.  I'm going to pray he doesn't remember me.
  • Congrats!  That's so neat.  If it is the same guy maybe you got the job because he recognized your name.  But I'd google him and check LinkedIn too.  Good luck at your meeting with him.
  • 1) Super congrats!

    2) a fling is a fling, you both enjoyed it, you've both moved on and made lives for yourselves.  Just go with the flow, I would think he'd be professional enough to not bring it up but if it does come up... say something along the lines, "those were interesting times, look how far we've come..."

And I like this idea.  Big Smile

  • the (maybe) funny thing will be when HE sees YOU! I'm assuming that you changed your last name when you got married? If so, he probably has no idea...

  • Ditto, ditto, ditto.  And OMG, I almost pee'd when I read MC's response.   But seriously, congratulations!!  I'm sure you will handle it with sublime grace.

Good luck, don't forget to update!

    hehehe.

Like pp said - you have an upper hand because he probably has.no.idea. (assuming you've changed your last name).  Surely he won't say anthing and it's a great story!  He'll probably go home after he realizes and and have a great story, too!

It's amazing how small the world is.

Thankfully all my flings were/are total losers, and I'll never run into any of them professionally.,.. Stick out tongue

  • Congrats, cookie! That is awesome and I am thrilled for you!

  • Congrats!!!  : )

Yeaaaah.  That happened to me once.  I was a Lead Engineer and we were hiring and this guy that I had a *fling* with once was a recruiter.  Set up a lunch date...got there and he said, "you don't remember me?"  First of all, made me feel like a 'ho because I didn't.  *heh*  Then it clicked and oh boy....  I told my DH about it and he laaaaaauuughed at me!  (Plus, I told him that the guy had no "swagger"...not like [DH] does.  That made DH laugh even more!)

But, hey...I am willing to bet that either a) he doesn't remember/know or b) he picked you because he DOES remember and that everything is cool. : )
