I'm with an RE and waiting 1-3 cycles to do IUI#2. My chance of conceiving without intervention each month is only 5%. I use O sticks and chart. Not sure if CBEFM is worth it. When I did IUI#1 I was on 100mg Follistim with a trigger and was monitored so no real need for O sticks or CBEFM.
I sort of want one now because I want to TTC while waiting for IUI#2 but those suckers are expensive (but of course cheap compared to the cost of IUI).
Opinions?
Re: Should I get a CBEFM?
I used one for a few months, but for me charting/OPK was just as good, if not better.
I wouldn't have bought one if I had my time back.
In your situation with the RE, I probably wouldn't buy one.
Also, they have a little ol' disclaimer that says that they won't work (or may not work, or something) for people using fertility drugs.
I am a true believer in the CBEFM, but like already mentioned you can't use while on fertility drugs.
I bought one years ago when DH and I were TTC #1 and it was taking a while. I didn't like the guesswork of OPKs. The first month I ever used it I got a BFP - but we had a natural mc. We wound up having DD via our first ever IVF, she was born in 2008.
Flash forward to summer 2009: i decided we shouldn't try long on our own for #2 so we tried for 2 months and then I did another IVF with RE. that IVF failed. the month after the failed IVF I knew would be a non-medicated cycle since we were going on vacation, so I busted out the CBEFM again. To my utter shock and surprise, we got a BFP on the very first try - and we are due with our 2nd DD in June.
I have one and love it - got PG with it on the first month - ended in m/c. Then got preg again using it on the 3rd cycle. I am now using it again to TTC #2. So far I am on cycle #3. I got mine from ebay too. you have to remember to clear the data on it if you are bying a used one... it tracks the previous users cycles and data.
GL!
In my bag: Nikon D90; 35mm 1.8, 90mm 2.8 macro (my fave), Lensbaby Composer with macro extensions. BFP after 13 cycles and one ectopic. Lost left tube 5/19/10.
