Sister Vent

We are having a yard sale soon and my sister asked if one of her work friends (who I met once) can come set up at our yard sale because they really need the money but live in the country.

I am really shy and plus I hate small talk so I asked if she could come too, so it wouldn't be awkward and she said no because she didn't want to waste her Saturday.

It is going to be so awkward and weird to make small talk with strangers for half the day! Also when we have a yard sale, we usually go buy subs for lunch and I will feel obligated to buy them some too (and we are broke!).

I will bite the bullet and invite them to come, because these people are really poor (haven't paid their mortgage in 7 months) but I sorta resent my sister for putting me in this situation!

They are HER friends! Why can't she just let them set up a yard sale at her house? She lives in a townhome community that has a big neighborhood yard sale in the summer and they could set one up then! I suggested it to my sister so we will see.

My sister always asks me to do weird things or things that cause me to go way out of my way!

Re: Sister Vent

  • I'm sorry your sister put you in that position. I feel for that family, but I would have said no. You need money too and them being there could take away fro your own sales.
  • that sucks of her to do that.

i would also politely decline.  you need to worry about your own family first.

    ((hugs))

  • I didn't even think of that.

Any excuse I give my sister she will just poo poo away and make me feel like a bad guy for not helping them out.

I asked if they could have a yard sale at her house and she said they didn't have a ton of stuff so it might be more profitable to combine with someone else. Oy.

  • Thanks Susan!

I did just send her an email that I was uncomfortable with it and she blew up at me saying it wasn't a big deal but she will tell her friend I said no.

So it sounds like she already told her it was okay before even asking me.

well, then that's her problem to deal with.

i'm glad it's taken care of, at least.  :)

i'm sure your sister will get over it.  that's what sisters do.

  • Haha, my sister is master grudge holder!

Well I thought it was over. At first I said ok, fine and just vented here and to my mom. But then my mom said "tell her no!" So I did and it started a big fight so I caved and told her it was fine again. LOL. Whatevers! I'll just cross my fingers that they can't make it that day.
