What did you say/do when the items for Easter were out and all over stores? Did your kids ask why there were easter baskets there when the easter bunny brings them? Just curious as we were shopping tonight and my kids saw the clearance easter stuff and wondered what was going on. lol
Re: How did you handle this?
My girls get Easter gifts from their aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. And we buy Easter stuff for all their cousins too so I just explained that all that stuff is for people who might want to buy it for gifts.
I said "that is for a holiday that christians celebrate. We celebrate Passover instead."
What did you say if your kids saw Matzah or gefilte fish?

Expecting,
i don't get what is shocking about this. my kids see easter decorations and ask abot them, i say in a very honest way "those are for a holiday that christians celebrate". that's true, right? easter decorations are for a holiday that christians celebrate. we don't celebrate it. we celebrate a different holiday. my children know that they are jewish but that not everyone is and therefore celebrate different holidays. jews celebrate passover. christians celebrate easter at this time of year. I mean no offense to anyone.
I wasn't sure what to make of your response. I think the OP was asking how other people who celebrate Easter explain it to their kids since they tell them that the Bunny is the one who brings the baskets of goodies.
Your response made it seem that she was assuming EVERYONE celebrates Easter and you were put off by the fact that perhaps she didn't phrase it differently like 'If you celebrate Easter how do you handle this'. Anyway, I read it as you were offended by her question and giving her a smarty-pants response, but since you clarified I see that is not the case.
